Park Holidays UK Leverages IGEL to Accelerate Mergers & Acquisitions, Cloud Migration and Microsoft 365 Adoption

UK, Reading. September 13, 2022 – IGEL, the provider of a managed endpoint operating system for secure access to any digital workspace, has announced that Park Holidays UK is leveraging its technology to support the company’s M&A growth strategy, enable access to cloud-based applications, and introduce video conferencing using Microsoft Teams.

Park Holidays UK, one of the largest operators in the country, has been an IGEL customer for over a decade. The company offers static caravan and lodge holidays, ‘glamping,’ and holiday home ownership across various locations in the United Kingdom.

Park Holidays UK has experienced organic growth and multiple acquisitions, including Bridge Leisure in 2021, which added nine parks, and Bodmin Holiday Park in 2022. This month, the company also acquired Park Leisure, increasing its portfolio to 54 locations.

In 2021, the company achieved record revenues of £228 million and an EBITDA of £79.6 million[1]. On April 8, 2022, Sun Communities, Inc. acquired Park Holidays UK for £950 million, representing a 162% growth in the business value over five years[2].

Standardized IT Infrastructure Enables Geographically Diverse Operations

Park Holidays UK has been a long-term user of VDI and thin client technology, deploying a combined IGEL and Citrix solution ten years ago. This initiative resolved bandwidth issues, standardized desktops, eliminated unreliable and high maintenance PCs, and simplified endpoint deployment and management.

Michael Procyshyn, IT Director at Park Holiday UK, explains, “We have a uniform system across the company, so when new parks are acquired, we simply deploy Citrix and IGEL to rapidly roll out desktop services. This allows us to scale up our infrastructure and systems quickly and cost-effectively, making the joint solution a true growth enabler.”

In recent years, Park Holidays UK has modernized its IT environment, investing in new desktops, server virtualization, SAN storage, and a MPLS-based Wide Area Network to interconnect all holiday park sites. The company also migrated IT applications and its Avaya phone system to the cloud, specifically Microsoft Azure. Additionally, it implemented Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 Business Central, with Elite Parks software serving as the company’s ERP system.

Citrix and IGEL OS-powered Endpoints Provide Various Benefits:

  1. Native support for cloud-based applications: IGEL OS and IGEL hardware are optimized to support VDI and DaaS applications, which is crucial for Park Holidays UK’s transition to a Microsoft-based cloud environment.
  2. Accelerated staff onboarding: The combination of cloud-based applications, Citrix, and IGEL OS-powered endpoints allows Park Holidays UK to rapidly integrate newly acquired businesses. Procyshyn states, “When we purchased Bridge Leisure, it took us just four weeks to migrate the nine sites and provide access to our systems for the onboarded staff.”
  3. Enhanced security: Park Holidays UK has minimal virus-related issues due to server-based security control and locked-down IGEL endpoints that prevent unauthorized modifications and locally loaded applications.
  4. Cost-effective and simplified management: IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS) enables centralized control of the distributed environment, reducing the need for technical staff and ensuring efficient technical support for all employees using IGEL endpoints.
  5. Seamless cross-site collaboration for staff: Thanks to standardized desktop applications and Citrix access, Park Holidays UK employees can easily work across locations and access corporate applications, folders, and files. This operational efficiency simplifies staffing during peak holiday periods.
  6. Implementation of Microsoft Teams for video conferencing: Park Holidays UK plans to leverage the native power of IGEL endpoints running IGEL OS to implement Microsoft Teams. Evaluation trials are underway, with device updates expected.

Procyshyn concludes, “When we evaluated our desktop approach, we realized that transitioning away from IGEL’s technology to laptops or PCs would be cost prohibitive. IGEL and Citrix facilitate our rapid expansion plans by providing simple and painless endpoint deployment.”

Simon Townsend, Chief Marketing Officer at IGEL, comments, “Park Holidays UK is not just a simple caravan-related business; it is a diverse organization. IGEL and Citrix enable their large hotel chain, restaurant and pub business, and property and maintenance operations to have easy access to corporate IT systems and the internet. This leads to lower desktop TCO and an excellent end-user experience.”
